On Being A Hype Woman for Climate Influence

Biking around Seattle feeds my joy - yes it does.

Today, I’m launching a new approach to my Substack. The audio will be me enthusing about an idea or an exciting-to-me topic (and I’ll always include the auto-generated transcript for that) , while the newsletter will be more to the point and formatted.

My newsletter categories will be Rave, Rant, and Opportunity (and, it’s likely that even the rants will be turned into some form of opportunity before I’m done with them)

Let me know what you think! Send me suggestions for Raves and Opportunities, especially.

My goal is to ramp UP my “hype woman” agenda…

RAVE: Organizations like Covering Climate, that exist solely to educate, convene, support, and forward powerful climate journalism. Their webinar today - with help from Reuters Institute research - about how journalists are using social media to increase their impact was fantastic. You should follow them. :-)

RANT: That we still may need to rely on “climate” or “sustainable” conferences to learn and connect, when what we really need to do is help get more climate content across the board into the various industry/sector conferences. Are we ready to stop preaching to the choir already? I see SO MUCH opportunity for those who are building noticeable climate influence to get out of the bubble and become a resource in a much more direct way. Filter opportunities by noticing which are choir-preaching and focus on the others more.

OPPORTUNITY: Transportation only got sexy to me when I realized how much I preferred riding a bike or taking transit to get around my city and the cities I visit. There is LOTS of opportunity to tell the stories of even the smallest town innovations with EV fleets or some sort of bike share or… ways to help communities see the possibility in “less-car” existence ,AND notice the joy of those who have already converted. If you experience joy and freedom in your less-car mobility, ENTHUSE about it.

See you next time - and hope your world may allow you a bike ride for transportation in the near future.
