(This post is free to all subscribers because I want it to inspire as many food policy influential folks to get ON this for their corporations/organizations and what Neeti Jain shares here is GOLD. AND, if you regularly find value in my shares, I’d appreciate the nod with a paid subscription. It helps me to know I am reaching and resonating here. )
This is the first in a series I’m calling #ISpyClimateInfluence . And, as I am known to do - my aim is to highlight the leaders and now programs, efforts, approaches - that are “unusual suspects” in climate action. Today’s topic, FOOD, should simply not be an unusual suspect at all.
That’s why this conversation with Neeti Jain, Strategic Partnerships Advisor at NYC Mayor’s Office of Food Policy, is so timely (hello, #COP29 ? ). And, when you hear her share about the Plant Powered Carbon Challenge, you will likely be asking yourself (as a sustainability leader, city leader or someone who otherwise has some input on food policy decisions), why the Scope 3 emissions reductions in a food shift is NOT yet in your toolkit? This PPCC program is your nudge - whether you are in NYC or not. What they are up to is a model for any and all to take cues from.
Among our topics:
What is our inclination toward prioritizing, funding and emphasizing the “tech solution” over the simpler, more obvious, root cause?
Why is behavior change the third rail when it can have SO much impact so quickly?
This CAN be done at scale(!)
JOY is found very quickly in this food transformation, and why not see that as an amazing cross-benefit?
